Breaking News: Trump Considers Sanctions on Nigeria Over Nnamdi Kanu Case After 200 Igbo U.S. Military Veterans Petition for Action: Uphold the Rule of Law or Face Severe Consequences
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Nigeria, urging the country to respect the rule of law and immediately release all political prisoners and those seeking self-determination.
โIโm hearing a lot of reportsโmany, many reportsโboth locally and internationally, about Nigeriaโs judiciary not obeying its own laws. Not good. Not good at all,โ Trump said. โThey need to release all those unfairly detained. I keep hearing about this guy, Nnamdi Kanuโdonโt know much about him, but I do know this: If Nigeriaโs own courts say heโs free, then he should be free. Simple as that.โ
Trump warned that failure to comply would have โserious consequencesโ for Nigeria. โBelieve me, itโs not going to be pretty. Theyโre not going to like it. Nigeria has a great military, great peopleโespecially the Igbo-Nigerians serving in our U.S. military. Theyโre doing an incredible job, absolutely incredible. And they donโt want to keep hearing about this situation.โ
He also criticized Nigeriaโs leadership, saying, โLetโs be honestโNigeria has never really had a legitimate president who truly cares about its people. And by the way, I donโt think the current president ever congratulated me when I won. Very disrespectful.โ
