Just In: Ohanaeze Ndigbo has sent a formal message to Abuja, We are no longer comfortable in Nigeria, We may have no choice but to return to our traditional systems of tradeโ€”where goods are exchanged for value, not Naira.

Our star is being dimmed, not by lack of talent or vision, but by the very nation that should be enabling our growth. Nigeria is holding us back. We, the Igbo people, possess the potential not only to uplift Africa but to stand tall on the global stage alongside nations like China. Yet, we find ourselves constantly restrained by a system that refuses to support our progress.

In a country where those who rely solely on the government are placed on the same level as hardworking Igbosโ€”who have built livelihoods through sheer determination without any government supportโ€”it is difficult to thrive. Every effort made to uplift the Naira is undermined by irrational decisions that continue to weaken it. We are tired of this union. Nigeria is dragging us backward, and we can no longer accept it.

The only reason the Naira is still somewhat stable is because of the relentless business drive and contributions of the Igbo people. If we were to withdraw from the system, the value of the Dollar would skyrocket beyond imagination. We cannot continue being the backbone holding together a country that is steadily falling apart.

If these concerns are not addressed, we may have no choice but to return to our traditional systems of tradeโ€”where goods are exchanged for value, not Naira. You give me yam, I give you oil. You offer maize, I provide cassava.
