No fewer than five persons have been reported killed in Mkpani, the home town of former governor of Cross River State, Clement Ebri in Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
The killing according to eyewitnesses was as a result of the age-long chieftaincy tussle which resumed at the weekend, after the annual new yam festival in one of the Communities.
Various weapons were deployed by all sides in the conflict which has led to many casualties with several houses burnt.
Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo who confirmed the killings, however, declined to give the figure of the casualties.
Ugbo says the police commissioner has led anti-riot mobile policemen to restore peace in the villages.
Mkpani which is also the home town of the current speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Eteng Williams has been crisis ridden since 2014 over chieftaincy dispute.
