The Police in Imo State have launched a manhunt for an 82-year -old man, identified as Theophilus Okere, for allegedly stabbing his wife, Beatrice, to death.
The incident happened at Imerienwe in the Ngor- Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
NaijaPledge reports that Okere, a retired Director General of Imo Broadcasting Corporation, Owerri, fled the scene and his currently on the run.
He was alleged to have escaped with the aid of a yet -to -be identified indigene of the community after killing the 70+ years old woman.
It was gathered that neighbours rushed the woman to a hospital nearby where she was confirmed dead.
But the police say they are on the trial of the octogenarian.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said,
“Policemen visited the scene of the incident which is the home of the couple. The place was deserted. Both the murderer and the murdered were not seen.
“The neighbours refused to disclose the hospital where the woman was rushed to before she died. Interestingly, we have swung into action with a view to arresting the fleeing suspect and serving justice.”
Meanwhile, the incident has thrown neighbours into a state of confusion with many wondering the circumstances that caused the old couple to fight till one stabbed the other to death.
