Persons suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents are currently on rampage, attacking two Local Government Areas of Borno State, Security sources have said on Saturday.
learnt that the insurgents stormed Monguno town, at exactly 11:30am, shooting sporadically, in an attempt to overrun the town.
According to the Security sources, the gun duel was still ongoing between troops and the terrorists, at the time of filing in this report.
A staff of an International Non-Governmental Organisation, INGO, disclosed that there were deafening sounds of gunshots everywhere.
“As I am speaking with you, Monguno is under attack by Boko Haram, there are loud blast ongoing now, the troops are trying to repel it. We are not safe, please pray for us.”
Similarly, the insurgents had attacked a remote village of Usmanati Goni, Nganzai Local Government Area, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to a Local Hunter source, the attackers came at 10:00am, raining bullets on the civilians.
Casualty figures could not be ascertained at the time of this report.
It would be recalled, that a fortnight ago, insurgents attacked Gubio Local Government Area, where 81 civilians and hundreds of livestock were killed, and 6 persons, including the Village Head, were abducted.
