The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has claimed no knowledge about the allegations by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, currently making the rounds, that the Federal Government printed about N60 billion, last month, to cushion the financial troubles in the country, under President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch,
Governor Obaseki reportedly stated on Thursday, last week, that Nigeria is in huge financial trouble, alleging that the Federal Government printed N60 billion, in March, as part of the Federal Allocation for the 3 tiers of government, last month.
He also expressed worry over the country’s increased borrowing under President Buhari, saying that, it is wrong to continue borrowing without a tangible plans for debt repayment.
Reacting however, when contacted to comment on the development, the Spokesperson for the CBN, Osita Nwanisobi, said that he is not aware of any N60 billion that was printed by the Federal Government.
“I am not aware of that N60 billion printed by government”, he stated.
Similarly, when contacted to speak on the N60 billion printing allegation, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning said that enquiries on the matter should be directed to the Governor who made the allegation.
The Media Aide to the Minister of Finance, Yunusa Abdullahi, stated that Governor Obaseki or the CBN should be contacted.
He stated angrily: “Please direct your questions to the Governor who made the claim, or the CBN.”
