The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has stated that “his reputation as somebody who wants to leave clean elections for Nigeria, has already been made, whether the Electoral Act is signed or not”, Page 36 learnt.
Recall, that the President has 30 days to make a decision on its assent, after receiving the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 from the National Assembly on November 19.
Recall also, that there have been speculations that President Buhari may not sign the Bill into Law in some quarters, owing to the controversy that trailed the inclusion of the direct mode of primary elections for political parties, while in other quarters, there are talks that the President will do the needful which Nigerians desire, and sign the Bill into Law.
Reacting however, in an interview with Channels Television, on Monday, Femi Adesina stated: “In terms of his image for democratic value, that image is already made. It is almost cast in concrete.
“You will find that one election after the other has been better under President Buhari.
“Under President Buhari, the governing party has lost, States, Legislative seats, and so many elections.
“It did not use to be. It used to be that whichever party was in power won all elections before, by hook or crook; not under President Buhari.
“So, his reputation as somebody who wants to leave clean elections for Nigeria has already been made, whether the Electoral Act is signed or not. It does not distract from that reputation.”
