Emerging report indicates that the President Muhammadu Buhari Federal Government through the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, is set to explore all options to ensure the 9th Senate removes the controversial Section 84 (12) from the recently signed Electoral Act, in order to protect political appointees, especially those of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from resigning, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The AGF spoke on this, shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He noted that the government has three options available, part of which is to ask the Legislators to reconsider their stance, including approaching the court, or accepting the Law as it is.
AGF Malami also noted that while it is the responsibility of the Lawmakers to legislate, if it becomes necessary, the Federal Government will exploit all options available to it.
He stated however, that the government is yet to take a full stance as to what it will do on the matter.
