The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has on Sunday, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately arrest and prosecute all the over 700 Special Delegates of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that took part in the just concluded Presidential primary election, in Abuja, that saw to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential Candidate of the party for the 2023 general elections.
The group faulted the entire process, alleging that it was marred by alleged bribery and corruption.
HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, specifically stated that Atiku’s emergence was allegedly heavily compromised by undue monetisation.
It said that it was disappointing that the Operatives of the EFCC only showed up at the venue of the primary election, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, in Abuja, as if they did not know that the alleged bribery of Delegates had already taken place elsewhere.
It berated the EFCC for failing to deploy Intelligence skills, in order to catch both the alleged bribe givers and takers.
HURIWA said: “Nigerians were shocked at the corruption fiesta called PDP Presidential primary, on Saturday night.
“The withdrawal from the PDP race by former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and Businessman, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who both said the PDP had monetised the process, suffices that the Presidential primary was nothing, but corruption fiesta.”
HURIWA also stated that it strongly condemns the conspiracy of the EFCC that pretended that it did know that bribes exchanged hands.
It “urged the EFCC top echelons in Abuja, to prosecute the over 700 Delegates that voted on Saturday”.
