Just a few months to the February 2023, Presidential election, which many Nigerians believe would be a historic one, especially if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would stick to its independence and ensure that the wishes and votes of Nigerians actually count during the poll, and the results are untampered with.
Ahead of the election, all political parties and their Candidates are going around the 36 States of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, addressing both paid and organic crowds of supporters, and telling them what they would do for them, if they elect them as the next President of the country. Whether or not the words coming out of the mouths of the Presidential Candidates at this time truly hold any value, is a topic for another day.
Among the Presidential Candidates, the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, to me, has the hardest job to do as he goes on with his campaign. I believe it will be complete foolery and shameless denial for him or members of his team to think otherwise.
As the Candidate of the ruling party, it would have been expected of him to proudly go around the 36 States and the FCT, with great confidence, and with little or not much work to do, if indeed the incumbent APC administration which he boasted publicly of getting into power had delivered its mandate to the people, and the citizens were not experiencing the worst times of their existence.
The opposite of that is what we have seen so far as Tinubu has gone around a few States campaigning, making brand new promises to Nigerians, as if he is campaigning as an opposition party, with little or no reference to any particular single achievement of the President Muhammadu Buhari APC Federal Government, in which he is still the National Leader till this day.
As a National Leader of a ruling party, one would reasonably expect that you would play a very significant role in the affairs of that government. We would expect that you must have contributed greatly to the success or failure of that government. But in the case of Tinubu, we are not clear as to what exactly his role was/is as the APC National Chairman in the incumbent government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
I believe, especially for right thinking citizens that see beyond any kind of sentiments, that it would be very necessary for Tinubu to make it clear to us, what his role was/is as the APC National Chairman, what his contributions and suggestions were/are to the government of the day, and whether or not those contributions and suggestions were rejected or accepted by the government of the day. This would help a lot, in my opinion, for his campaign, and in deciding whether Nigerians would support him or not for the 2023 Presidency.
Failure to do this, or think that this is not an important information to share with Nigerians, and also backed with clear and specific evidence, I believe is the beginning of the end of any dream Tinubu has of becoming Nigeria’s President, come 2023 general elections. And he may wish to continue wasting his money running from campaign ground to campaign ground, helping Tik Tokers with great content for laughter.
