The speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Tonye Isenah has been impeached.
The lawmakers have also elected Monday Obolo as the new speaker.
The change of guard at the Bayelsa state assembly followed reports of sporadic shootings outside the assembly complex on Monday morning.
The house which was supposed to have a sitting Monday morning decided to hold a closed door session.
Our reporters say journalists were awaiting a briefing on the outcome of the closed-door meeting when they heard the shootings outside the assembly complex. However, the situation was brought under control and the speaker later impeached.
