Prophet Muhammad is the founding father of Islam and the most widely revered Man in the world of Islam. Any form of abuse or derogatory statement used against him is usually greeted with force from Muslim faithfuls.
Reactions have continued to trail in from left, right and center as a 22-year-old musician in Kano state, Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, was sentenced to death by hanging for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad.
The judgement was passed by an upper Sharia court in the Hausawa Filin Hockey area of Kano, and it claimed that Yahaya Sharif-Aminu was guilty of the unforgivable crime of blasphemy as a result of the song he circulated via WhatsApp back in March.
The presiding judge of the sharia court, Judge Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani said that the musician can appeal against the rule, but the singer is currently held in detention.
It was however known that Yahaya-Sharif had gone into hiding after composing the song, and as result, protesters stormed his family house burnt it down. They even gathered outside the Hisbah, which is the headquarters of the sharia police, where they demanded that action be taken against him.
A lot of Muslim faithfuls have also contributed their voice to the issue, with many claiming support and expressing their love for the Prophet.
The most passionate reaction that grabbed my attention was one post made by a twitter user, M Hajishamshu; who claimed that he can sacrifice anything for the Prophet Muhammad.
As rumour may have it, some top officials even support the judgment of the sharia court as they believe this would serve as a form of discouragement to all those who may want to thread this path.
More reactions continued to trail the judgment, all filled with satisfaction and joy for justice.
It is very evident that no dedicated Muslim tolerates blasphemy, and that they are ready to follow the law to bring offenders to justice.
