Emerging report reaching Page 36 on Saturday, indicates that Police Operatives have shot teargas at peaceful June 12, Democracy Day protesters, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, where President Muhammadu Buhari resides.
It was further learnt that the Police shot the teargas to disperse the peaceful protesters, in the Gudu area of Abuja.
The protesters had earlier blocked the popular Gudu Junction, to protest against the bad and horrific state of the nation, under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to reports, the protesters in Gudu, had turned out in their numbers, carrying placards and banners with various inscriptions.
Among their demands, is the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari, for his clear incompetency.
According to them, the President has failed in addressing the numerous challenges in the country, including that of insecurity.
Those leading the protest in Abuja, include Activists, Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju.
As the protesters continued their protest, heavily armed Policemen stormed the scene and began shooting teargas into the air, dispersing the protest.
Similar protests are holding across the country, today.
The Security Operatives have also barricaded the Gani Fawehinmi Park, in Ojota, Lagos, where some residents had planned to stage a protest.
An Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at the entrance of the park, while armed Officers were stationed across strategic places in Lagos.
The very busy Ikorodu road was deserted, as Traders closed their shops, while a few vehicles were seen on the road, earlier today.
Some residents have chosen to stay indoors, apparently to prevent being caught in any clash between the Security Operatives and the peaceful protesters.
Elsewhere, men of the Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday morning, fired teargas canisters at the peaceful protesters who gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, in Lagos, the venue of the June 12, Democracy Day protest.
The protesters were demanding an end to bad governance, when they were teargassed by the Security Operatives.
Also protesting, youths on Saturday, marched in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, over the growing insecurity and poverty in Nigeria, under President Buhari’s watch.
The protesters, who gathered at the popular Mokola Roundabout, in Ibadan, for the June 12 rally, held placards demanding an end to bad governance.
The Police, Army, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were present at the protest ground, earlier today.
Among the inscriptions on the placards were: ‘End impunity in Nigeria’, ‘No to fuel price hike’, and ‘We are tired of the killings, insecurity, terrorism, and poverty in the country’.
Fed up youths protesting against bad governance and insecurity, also stormed Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, and Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday.
It was learnt that the youths under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society, in Osun State, converged at the popular Oke-Fai Roundabout.
The protesters held banners and placards demanding for a better Nigeria.
One of the protesters in Osun State, Waheed Saka, said: “We cannot ruin the economic activities of our State, all in the name that some secessionist Agitators want to protest. We are here today to demand a better country that works for all, we want a secure environment.”
Among the inscriptions on the placards held by protesters in Akure, were: “We need good and working Nigeria”, “stop the killings”, and “End bad governance”.
