The government of Lagos State, has revealed that the owner of the collapsed 21-storey building, located at 20, Gerrard Road, in Ikoyi, Lagos State, on Monday, has been arrested, and will be prosecuted, .
It revealed that the owner was given the approval to construct only 15 floors, but went ahead to construct a 21-storey, and with terrible materials.
The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Gbolahan Oki, made the disclosure in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
He stated: “The materials he used for the reinforcement are so terrible. He got approval for 15 floors, but built 21. He has been arrested.”
Mr. Oki added that so far, 4 people have been rescued alive, and three bodies recovered, with rescue efforts continuing.
