The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has stated that he will not pledge to patronise the Nigerian Health sector, if elected as the next President of Nigeria, come 2023 general elections,
The PDP Candidate made this known on Sunday night, when he featured on ARISE Television’s live show, ‘Presidential Town Hall, Series Three: Education, Healthcare, Poverty and Human Capital’, which was monitored by Correspondent.
The Town Hall featured the 2023 Presidential Candidates of the PDP, Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi; All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, who shunned it for a more important engagement in far away London, United Kingdom, UK; and the Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Candidates all present answered questions relating to the topics slated for discussions for the night.
However, when asked if they are prepared to show evidence of their current health status to Nigerians, as well as pledge on live television to patronise the Nigerian Health sector, if elected as the next President of Nigeria, Atiku stated that while he is ready to show Nigerians evidence of his current health status, he will not pledge to patronise the country’s Health sector, arguing that “we have our limits” to the level of Medical service we can provide, compared to the developed Western nations.
Answering the same question, Kwankwaso stated that he is a core patron of Nigeria, having no property and investment abroad, and as such, he will 100 percent patronise the Nigerian Health sector, if elected as the next President of the country. He also said that he has a clean bill of health, and was recently assured a guaranteed extra 30 years of life by his local Nigerian Doctors, which he will be ready to show Nigerians.
The Candidate of the Labour Party on his part, stated that he will improve the Nigerian Health sector by investing greatly in it to upgrade it to some of the best in the world, and will definitely patronise it. He added however, that the only time he may be forced to seek Medical tourism abroad, is if there is a referral by his local Nigerian Doctors as the only remedy.
Peter Obi argued that a situation where Nigerians are strictly restricted forcefully, not to leave the country under any circumstance to get urgent Medical attention, will be undemocratic.
