The figure from Zamfara alone is more than the 1,232,000 from the entire south-south region. It is also three times more than the 383,316 of the south-east, the least among all the regions.
Beggers on queue The federal government has released the full list of the 11 million Nigerians tagged as “poor and vulnerable”.
The National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) published the list which cuts across 2.6 million households, on Friday.
With 1.34 million poor Nigerians across 290,000 households, Zamfara state has the highest number while Sokoto has the least with 18,435 across 3,347 households.
The figure from Zamfara alone is more than the 1,232,000 from the entire south-south region. It is also three times more than the 383,316 of the south-east, the least among all the regions.
On the list, Kebbi has 932,460 poor citizens across 219,000 households, Katsina, 807,200 poor people across 176,700 households and Kano, 764,000 across 151,300 households.
Ebonyi and Ogun are not on the list because, according to the NASSCO, the states are still in the process of building their social register.
‘HOW POOR NIGERIANS ARE SELECTED’
NASSCO said the register for poor and vulnerable Nigerians is built through a “rigorous, transparent community based targeting process undertaken by states and validated by NASSCO.”
In a separate tweet, it said enrolment into the register is through three methods, including community-based targeting (CBT), which “identifies, validates and selects specific members of that community” as poor and geographic testing, which looks at poorest LGAs in each state in terms of resources, amenities and infrastructure.
