As the campaigns for the Governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September 19, this year, heat up, there have been allegations and counter-allegations from various groups, of plans by some people from Abuja and other States, to rig the election, .
Amid the allegations, a group operating under the aegis of “Concerned Edo People”, has warned that anybody, especially Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, coming to the State, with the intention of rigging the election, should write their last Will.
“Write your Wills, if you are coming to rig election in Edo State, and hand them over to your wife, children, or family, because we are going to resist rigging, and anybody found rigging, will be sent to his ancestors.
“We are going to monitor the election with our biros and papers, and we will be at the polling booths everywhere in the State, and the result must be declared on the spot for everybody to note down.
“We gathered that some people are planning to use Federal might to rig the election, those concerned are not hiding; we will not tolerate any rigging this time, like it happened in 2016.
“All results must be announced at each polling unit, and there must be no rigging of any type”, the group seriously warned.
For his part, the incumbent Governor of the State and the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Godwin Obaseki, assured the people of the State, that there would be no room for rigging and manipulation of votes in the forthcoming election in the State.
Speaking when he rolled out his scorecard for the past four years, Governor Obaseki warned those planning to cause violence during the election, to have a rethink, because according to him, Edo people will resist any form of malpractices during the election.
“Nobody can rig in Edo State, Edo will not allow rigging”, he boldly declared.
Speaking further, the Governor said that his infrastructure battle has opened up the State, and attracted Investors, explaining that he stepped on toes, by rejecting the notion of ownership of Edo State, by the privileged few who are oblivious of the plight of the masses.
Furthermore, Governor Obasekl stated that Edo State is not meant for Politicians alone, but for the masses that deserve more dividends of democracy.
