The President Muhammadu Buhari Federal Government, has reacted to the United Kingdom, UK, Parliament’s resolution on the petition written by EndSARS protesters, seeking for sanctions on some top Political Office holders and Security Heads, over gross human rights violation,
Recall, that members of the UK Parliament, on Monday, held a debate on the petition to the United Kingdom government.
During a sitting at the Westminster Hall, the Lawmakers, led by Theresa Villiers, a member of the British Conservative Party, took turns to slam the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, for the poor handling of the peaceful protest.
While describing the “Nigerian government’s violence against its own citizens” as intensifying, Kate Osamor, a member who is representing Edmonton, said that corruption and Police brutality still continue.
However, in a swift reaction, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said that the Nigerian government is unperturbed by the decision of the UK Lawmakers.
The Minister assured that the UK government will not sanction Nigeria based on hearsay, fake social media evidence, and emotional sentiments of some of the Lawmakers to the EndSARS protests.
His words: “The Federal Government is not panicky at all. The resolution of the UK Parliament is not necessarily the decision of the UK government.
“And no responsible government will consider sanctioning the Federal Government based on fake news and hearsay, without getting in touch with the government.
“They will also do their own painstaking investigations, and also ask for the side of the country. So, we have no reason to panic at all, because we know that all the evidence before them is fake news – nothing of big news.”
