It is no longer news that the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, earlier this week, officially, and I wish him well, because for me, it did not come as a surprise.
It is however, shameful to hear him talk. A friend of mine described him recently, as a political toddler, despite once occupying the position of the PDP State Chairman, Deputy Governor for eight years, and now a second term Governor.
Governor Umahi angered the ‘gods’ by saying that the PDP has not done anything for the South-East. Mr. Governor, with due respect, you lied!
Under the PDP, the South-East has produced 5 Senate Presidents (Senators Evans Enwerem, Chuba Okadigbo, Anyim Pius Anyim, Adolphus Wabara, and Kenechukwu Nnamani); one Deputy President of the Senate (Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who held the position for 12 years); Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Hon. Emeka Ihedioha), and National Party Chairmen (Chief Vincent Ogbulafor and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo).
Under the PDP, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika was Chief of Army Staff. Under the PDP, Dr. Charles Soludo was CBN Governor. Under the PDP, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. In fact, she was the then defacto President.
Under the PDP, Prof. Maurice Iwu was the National INEC Chairman. Under the PDP, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim was Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
Under the PDP, Governor David Umahi was Acting State Chairman, State Chairman, Deputy Governor, and now Governor for two terms.
Under the PDP, Governor David Umahi’s younger brother, Chief Austin Umahi, was National Vice Chairman, South-East.
Under the PDP, Mr. Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, was made the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate in the 2019 general elections.
I hereby challenge Governor David Umahi to mention anything that the APC has done for the South-East.
I rest my case!
