A chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Garus Gololo,
has said Tinubu is a rejected man in the North unlike vice President Yemi Osinbajo, whom he said would make winning the 2023 presidential election much easier for the APC.Gololo who made the statement in an interview in Abuja on Friday, said Osibanjo has displayed competence, loyalty, hard work and statesmanship to pilot the affairs of the country.
He said while he supports a southern president, it would however, be a huge mistake if Tinubu is the South’s preferred candidate. He noted that Tinubu is aged and battling with health issues.
“In politics, what you do when you want votes is to consult with people, dialogue and negotiate with them. For now, who are you fighting for? You can’t fight for Tinubu because already he is aged. He is already in UK hospital, do you want to be going back to London as we are going? We cannot take that thing again, we are okay.“I can vote Osinbajo direct because he is a person of integrity, he is loyal to the president, he can do anything you think of and he is not biased. When he speaks anywhere, he represents Nigeria, not ethnic or parochial view. I respect him and can go with him.“If Osinbajo is going with Zulum, before 12 O’clock, we would have seen the results. But if you pick Tinubu, who will he pair with? I understand he wants to run with Boss Mustapha, who lost his ward in Hong in 2019. His younger brother bought the form for State Assembly, but did not succeed, is that who will be vice president?”,
he said.Tinubu’s influence in the APC has continued to dwindle, leaving him with the feeling of being betrayed by the party he helped formed, and the president he helped brought to power.
Tinubu is believed to have signed a pact with Buhari, to become his successor in exchange for his support to win the election in 2015. However, having won his second term in office, Buhari has no plans to honor the said pact it any actually existed.President Buhari in an interview with Arise Television on Thursday June 10, 2021, said “You cannot sit there in Lagos, for instance, and decide the fate of APC on zoning. Therefore we should allow the party to decide.
” The statement by Buhari was not well received by Tinubu’s camp who believed the president was referring to Tinubu, who is perhaps the most powerful member of the party that lives in Lagos. This has prompted Tinubu to begin considering his options should Buhari fail to honor their agreement, according to sources close to the APC national leader. According to them, “we have thought of all these. We know what is going on in the presidency. If Buhari allows the prediction of some people that he will betray Tinubu to come to pass, then we will move to another party to actualise our aim.
” The sources said that fairness dictates that ‘one good turn deserves another,’ adding that Tinubu is the most qualified for the office of the president in the country at the moment and that he is unstoppable in 2023. The sources posited that “Tinubu would turn Nigeria around the way he laid the foundation for a new Lagos from 1999 to 2007,” and that “posterity will judge if Tinubu actually means well for Nigeria.”
