A 72-year-old man, Lawal Izala, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, by a Katsina State Court, for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the State, Aminu Masari.
Recall, that Izala and two others were arrested by the Katsina State Police Command, for the offence.
The suspects, 72-year-old, Lawal Abdullahi Izala; Bahajaje Abu, 30; and Hamza Abubakar, 27; were arrested over a video which went viral on the social media.
The court on Tuesday, however, found Izala guilty of a two-count charge of inciting violence, and disrespect for civil authorities.
The 72-year-old was sentenced to 6 months jail term for the first charge, and 1 year for the other charge, with an option of N10,000 fine for the first charge, and N20,000 for the second.
Speaking to Journalists after the judgement on Tuesday, Izala said that he spoke out of anger.
He explained that he visited his village and found out that bandits had killed his family members, and rustled 15 of his cows.
