The Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, has called for the immediate disbandment of the Presidential Task Force, PTF, on Covid-19, accusing the President Muhammadu Federal Government team of releasing fictitious figures to members of the public, regarding the virus, Page 36 learnt.
The allegation was made in a statement on Friday, by the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, SSG, Dr. Ayoade Folashade Arike.
The SSG further accused the PTF of dishing out falsehood against the Kogi State Government, adding that the Federal Government team has betrayed the intention of President Buhari and Nigerians.
Part of the statement reads:
”It is clear that the PTF has not learnt a lesson from the colossal loss of revenue, job losses, riots (#EndSARS protest ), etc, resulting from the unnecessary lockdown they imposed on the country in 2020. The loss from the poor management of Covid-19, far outweighs the actual loss from the disease itself.
”The PTF had long predicted the second wave in advance, as though they had a secret communion where Covid-19 gave them notice that they would be coming at such a time. Whereas, the PTF was merely mimicking, copying and listening to happenings in other parts of the world, and running the same commentary down our throats.
”There is available in Nigeria, effective treatment for Covid-19. We should focus more on harnessing those treatment options, than the mad rush to throw away our hard-earned money in pursuit of a vaccine.
”Nigeria should be at the forefront of technology transfer, and bringing prosperity to its people. PTF should not be in the forefront of importing poverty and disease.
”It is rather curious that the PTF that claimed to have treated and discharged over 90 percent of the Covid-19 patients without the use of any vaccine, is hell-bent on spending a humongous amount of money to procure vaccines on the same disease.”
The Kogi State Government also warned that it will not tolerate any abuse of power and privilege by the PTF.
The government stated that it remains committed to the well-being of its citizens and residents, and will continue to be.
