The crisis rocking the opposition People Democratic Party, PDP, seems to be coming to an end, as the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was visited by a former Vice President and 2019 Presidential Candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, .
It was learnt that both men had been at loggerheads over control of the party; and it was widely rumoured that Governor Wike was aggressively scheming to maintain control of the party’s structure, in order to pave way for his friend, Aminu Tambuwal, the Governor of Sokoto State, to emerge as the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the party, instead of Atiku.Atiku however, on the other hand, has been resisting such moves and fighting back; the development even led to a rift between Governor Wike and his bosom friend and National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.
However, with Tuesday’s meeting, in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, those differences seem to be set aside and sorted out. According to a reliable source privy to details of the meeting, Governor Wike was even heard saying: “If Atiku can manage and unite his Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba wives, he will surely unite Nigeria.”A former Kogi-West Senator, Dino Melaye, was also present at the reconciliation meeting.
