Emerging report indicates that 9 years after the death of a former Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa, in a helicopter crash, a document has emerged alleging how his assassination was plotted by some Muslim Leaders.
Recall, that late Yakowa and a former National Security Adviser, NSA, Owoeye Patrick Azazi, died in the 2012 crash.
Peoples Gazette (not Page 36) reported on Wednesday, that the embattled Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, and other prominent Muslim Leaders in the country, had plotted to assassinate the then Governor, who was of Christian faith.
Peoples Gazette revealed that it reached out to Dr. Pantami on the document at its disposal, but the Minister had not return a comment yet.
It is unclear whether the resolution of the Muslim Leaders was responsible for the helicopter crash that killed Mr. Yakowa and Azazi, however.
It was also learnt that Dr. Pantami chaired the July 13, 2010, meeting of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, a foremost Islamic body led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, where it was agreed that the then Kaduna State Governor was taken down alongside his relatives and supporters.
Late Yakowa was the first Christian Governor of Kaduna State.
“We must either use the Security or other means to eliminate the Governor, his family, and all those they perceive as supporting him”, Dr. Pantami and the Muslim Leaders were quoted as saying in the communique adopted at the meeting, which held at the Bauchi State Central Mosque, allegedly.
The meeting complained that late Yakowa was making moves to contest for Governor in 2011, and he had the support of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a fellow Christian, according to the report.
Late Yakowa contested in 2011, and won a substantive 4 years term. He was, however, killed in the helicopter crash, barely a year in Office as Governor of Kaduna State.
