The Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on Wednesday called for the release of pro-Biafra agitators in detention.
It praised President Muhammadu Buhari for complying with court orders to release former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col Sambo Dasuki (retd) and publisher/political activist Omoyele Sowore.
The group, in a statement by its President-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General Okwu Nnabuike, noted that prolonging Dasuki’s and Sowore’s incarceration would have damaged the country’s international status.
It said: “We urge the Presidency to release all other prisoners of conscience, especially Biafra agitators, who have been granted bail but are still held for political reasons.”
The group urged the Presidency to make respect for the rule of law and human rights its watchword.
“The Presidency should overhaul her modus operandi on the issues of rule of law, respect for human rights and privileges and obey court orders.
“This is to avoid such alleged United States Congress leaked letter being circulated as the main reason for the sudden release of Sowore and Dasuki.
“Such a situation makes a mockery of our democracy and the Federal Government should avoid a repeat in the future,” the group added.
Ohanaeze youths expressed concern about the attack on former President Goodluck Jonathan’s country home.
