Prior to the June 2018 Governorship election, held in Ekiti State, the former Governor, Ayo Fayose, then at the helms of affairs at the Oke-Ayoba Government House, could be referred to as the most powerful Politician in the Western geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
Many of us raised the alarm concerning the unholy alliance between the persons of Fayose and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, but majority did not take us serious.
I could remember tens of articles written to this regard, aimed at sensitising the genuine members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a bid to rescue the party from its imminent and avoidable crash.
It will also be recalled, that the highhandedness of the then Governor Fayose, was practically responsible for the mass defection of notable Leaders of the party alongside their followers, which obviously contributed to the failure of PDP government in the Ekiti 2018 Governorship poll. Fayose indeed never wanted PDP to win.
While some Founding Leaders of Ekiti PDP were out, trying tirelessly to amend the damage caused by Fayose, and to reunite the aggrieved members, who probably left the party because of his tyrannical Leadership, Ayo Fayose had a different mindset and agenda which centred solely on selfishness and greed.
I dare Fayose to deny it, that he did not negotiate the trading of Ekiti PDP for his temporary freedom at EFCC, with Tinubu. How? He had negotiated with Tinubu with a game plan of working undercover in support of Chief Segun Oni for Governor, and Oyetunde Ojo, Tinubu’s son-in-law, as Deputy Governor, against the aspiration of the then Minister for Solid Mineral Resources, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in the May 12, 2018 APC Governorship primary.
After collecting the first tranche of the 1 billion naira deal, Fayose then deviced the strategy to adopt a weaker Aspirant for the PDP, which saw Prof. Kolapo Eleka as his Candidate, a year before the party’s primaries, and as against the 90 days provisions of the Electoral Act. This consequently in no small measure polarised the party, and brought about disaffection among members, and thereby frustrated many out of the party.
Unfortunately, the trio of Oni, Fayose, and Tinubu, were defeated by Fayemi, in the keenly contested primary election that produced Segun Oni as runner up, and Kayode Ojo as the 3rd position.
When the reality of Fayemi’s victory dawned on him, even after securing an indicting ‘White Paper’ resolution on the allegations of financial misappropriation and abuse of office against Fayemi in their quest to stop him from contesting the APC primary through the then Ekiti 5th Assembly, Fayose ran back to Tinubu and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Lagos both who (those who probably deceived Fayose) then promised to support the ambition of Prof. Eleka of PDP in the alternative owing to the age long unresolved rift between Fayemi and his former godfather, Tinubu.
Eventually, Tinubu disappointed Fayose. On that very day, Eleka had followed Fayose for a meeting with Tinubu who had earlier promised monetary support for the Eleka/Ogunsakin’s election against Fayemi/Egbeyemi of APC. When they got to Tinubu’s residence, Fayose was asked to wait behind as he was told the APC leaders were in a crucial meeting which had in attendance Fowler, Aregbesola and other caucus members.
After the meeting, at about 3am, Tinubu was the first to step out and Fayose rushed to him to validate his appointment but was however told that the leaders have decided and which decision was to be communicated to Fayose through Aregbesola.
When Aregbesola came out of the meeting venue, (as at this time, Eleka was already sleeping on his seat) he disappointingly told Fayose that the Leaders had reached a consensus to support Fayemi, and that they could not afford to work against the candidacy of their party. With this news, Fayose became disappointed and enraged.

The good news is that PDP remains the ONLY Hope for Nigerians, which could revamp the nation’s sinking economy, and halt the maladministration meted on the citizenry by the ruling Buhari/APC-led government in 2023, and particularly, in Ekiti 2022 Governorship election.
The remover of Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman, has affirmed Gov. Kayode Fayemi’s Leadership of APC in the South-West geopolitical zone, and Asiwaju Tinubu has since become a former National Leader, and may soon seize to being a member, as he has commenced navigating talks with the opposition PDP, already, with well packaged beautiful lies.
How do we then rescue this country, Nigeria, from the foreseeable and avoidable merger of these political canker worms, who are aggressively approaching us to devour the remnant of our already damaged resources and feast fat of our commonwealth.
Nigerians and particularly, Ekiti people, must be aware, alerted, and ready to resist stiffly, the possible political conspiracy between Tinubu and Fayose, capable of assaulting our intelligence, and placing in bad light, a nation with its attendant century-long regrettable adventure: *God forbid*
