President Muhammadu Buhari, will reportedly not be handing over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as he embarks on a scheduled Medical trip to London, United Kingdom, UK, today, Friday, June 25, 2021, .
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had on Thursday, informed the public of the sudden trip in a statement.
Meanwhile, there is no indication that the President would be handing over power to Vice President Osinbajo, clearly because he will not be out of the country for up to 21 days, as required by the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and there are no reports of him writing a letter to that effect to the Senate.
In 2019, a Political Activist, Inibehe Effiong, sued the President for travelling to the United Kingdom, on vacation, without transmitting a letter to the National Assembly, empowering the Vice President to take over power, in line with Section 145 of the Constitution.
However, Justice A. O. Faji ruled that the President is not under a duty to handover to the Vice President, unless he is absent for a period exceeding 21 days.
