Bauchi – Following the review of its strategy and deployment to ensure the safety of lives and property in Bauchi State, the Bauchi State Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery in Bauchi.
According to a press statement by the State Public Relation Officer, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Habu A. Sani, on the 22nd of September 2019 at about 2000hrs, the Command received a distress call from Shafa filling station situated at Miri village along Bauchi – Jos road in Bauchi, that a gang of suspected armed robbers numbering about five armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons stormed the filling station with the intention of robbing them of their sales proceeds and other valuables.
The Statement stated that on receiving the report, the Command promptly mobilised its tactical teams attached to Operation Puff Adder to the area.
The PPRO said that on sighting the Police teams, the suspects engaged them in a gun battle, but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the Police and one of the suspects was shot during the battle while the rest were suspected to have escaped with bullets wounds.
He said that the suspect was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
DSP Kamal said exhibits recovered include, one AK-47 rifle with twenty-five rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, adding that case is under investigation.
According to him, no causality was recorded from the police or any innocent member of the public and effort is on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Police Command urged members of the public to report any suspicious persons or object promptly to the Police or any other security agency in the State.
