A group, known as the Concerned Peoples Democratic Party, CPDP, youths, have staged a protest in front of the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, against the recent judgment by the Supreme Court, which removed Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP, and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the authentic winner of the Imo State Governorship election, in 2019.
According to reports, the protesters who all appeared in black attire, comprised of young men and women in their early 20s.
They also carried different placards with inscriptions like: “Presidency and Judiciary murder Democracy”, “Supreme Court is a fraud”, “The Judiciary under the APC Government is a failure”.
In his remarks, the Leader of the group, Hassan Garba, who condemned the judgment in totality, said that it is a robbery against the PDP, and the people of Imo State.
“We do not accept that judgement by the Supreme Court, which removed our Candidate, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, and put Senator Hope Uzodinma of APC. Something must be done to save our democracy.”
However, the protest which was peaceful at the beginning, turned violent, as some persons among them started fighting over some issues not known as at the time of this report.
Earlier this week, the PDP had through its National Spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan, described the ruling as another sad commentary on the nation’s democratic order.
The PDP lamented that the people’s collective destiny has been taken from the Governor they chose, and handed over to someone and a political party that the residents do not want.
It lamented further, that Ihedioha’s progress as the Governor of Imo State, is now being jeopardised, as a result of the Supreme Court judgement.
