Youruba leaders have come for the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his silence on Amotekun, a security outfit which was setup by the Governors on his region.
PA Ayo Adebanjo and Senator Femi Okurounmu, leaders of Youruba group, Afenifere on Saturday lambasted, Tinubu for his continuous silence on the security outfit.
The security outfit with code name, Amotekun on January 9th 2019 was setup by the South-West Governors in order to curb the herdsmen menace in their region, just few days after the creation the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami declared the outfit illegal.
Also Miyetti Allah had also condemned the creation of Amotekun, as a regional security outfit limited to only the South-West.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has taken it’s position on the initiative, Yoruba leaders have voiced their support for Amotekun, but the Ex-governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu have refused to say anything concerning the outfit.
Speaking with The Punch 91 year old, Adebanjo tackled Tinubu for forming an alliance with the Northern region.
He said “It was the likes of Tinubu that told us that the South-West would enjoy many privileges but what has the South-West benefitted from the alliance? He shouldn’t have forged an alliance with them in the first place.
“He asked the Yoruba people to vote for him (Buhari) and that things would be better. Now that they are being slaughtered and they don’t want us to have our security, you are keeping quiet all because you are being deceived that you will become the President which you will never be.
“I have continued to tell him that they are just deceiving him and he is deceiving himself. Which promise has Buhari made and fulfilled? In 2015, he said he would be a born again democrat but does he even obey court orders?”
Speaking further, The Afenifere chieftain said the Federal Government had no right to discount Amotekun when it had failed in the provision of adequate security for the region.
