One of the top Lawyers in the country, Teinye Akobo, has on Friday, called for the prosecution of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, who just declared for the 2023 Presidency, learnt.
Mr. Akobo in a post on his Instagram story, accused the CBN Governor of violating the Laws of Nigeria, by being partisan and politicising the Apex Bank, by his move to declare for the 2023 Presidency while still active in Office.
See what he wrote exactly as attached:
Recall, that Emefiele picked the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential nomination and expression of interest forms earlier today, in Abuja.
Recall also, that in February 2022, while reacting to the controversy surrounding his then rumoured interest in the 2023 Presidency, the CBN Governor reportedly said that he would leave his fate firmly in the hands of God.
Meanwhile, according to Section 9 of the CBN Act, 2007, the Apex Bank Governor must not venture into any other vocation while in Office, and must resign in writing to the President, if he nurses such intention.
The Section reads: “The Governor and the Deputy Governors shall devote the whole of their time to the service of the bank and while holding office shall not engage in any full or part-time employment or vocation whether remunerated or not except such personal or charitable causes as may be determined by the Board and which do not conflict with or detract from their full-time duties…”
