The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has on Tuesday, logged into Twitter to deactivate his account, and in the process has violated the President Muhammadu Buhari Federal Government’s order against the use of Twitter indefinitely, which was issued last Friday, by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, .
Reports have it on good authority, that like many other Nigerians who have managed to access the social media giant without the Telecommunication companies in the country, the AGF may have accessed Twitter through Virtual Private Network, VPN.
With this move by the AGF, many Nigerians are waiting to see if the AGF will arrest and prosecute himself, in line with his threat last week Saturday, to arrest and prosecute any Nigerian still using Virtual Private Networks to access Twitter.
The AGF took to his Facebook page on Tuesday, posting a photo and a caption which read: “My Twitter account deactivated.”
Reacting, some concerned Nigerians wrote: “How were you able to deactivate Twitter without VPN? You should be arrested.”
Shoyombo Adebisi KingDavid commented on the post, saying: “Can you explain how you did that without first logging in?”
“This is evidence that you logged into Twitter today via VPN to deactivate your account, which is punishable under your unlawful law. Let us see how you will prosecute others without throwing yourself in jail”, Roy Ekwueme stated.
