President Muhammadu Buhari As some Nigerians were eager to hear that President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked service chiefs over their inability to handle the security situation in the country after the closed door meeting he had with them today, the outcome of the meeting was not what they expected.
The president said although the nation’s service chiefs are trying to tackle the security challenges being experienced across the country, but their best is not good enough.
He has therefore told them that he will no longer accept what he described as excuses.
The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting Buhari had with the security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
Monguno quoted Buhari as telling the service chiefs he appointed since 2015 that he expected them to henceforth live up to expectations.
He said the president lamented over the lack of synergy among the security forces and asked them to work together to solve the nation’s security challenges.
He said Buhari ordered him to meet with governors of the north-west states in order to know the problems in their states and to find strategic solutions to them.
With the rising cases of insecurity across the country, individuals and groups have been calling on the President to change the service chiefs, some of whom he has on different occasions extended their tenure.
