Petitions for the government of the United Kingdom to act toward and facilitate the release of its citizen, Nnamdi Kanu from “unlawful” detention In Nigeria has crossed 30,000 signatures from around the world. Kanu is also the leader of the secessionist group in Nigeria, Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).
He had traveled from the United Kingdom, en route to Kenya for an interview, where he was allegedly abducted by Kenyan authorities who worked with Nigerian authorities, tortured for 8 days and flown to Nigeria on 27th June 2021 for continuous prosecution.
Kanu had been declared wanted by the Nigeria government for the past 3 years, after he jumped bail on alleged treasonable offences in 2017.
Meanwhile, the petition to the United Kingdom was raised by one of Kanu’s supporters on the UK Parliament’s online platform, CHANGE.ORG which later drew in the attention of other supporters from around the world.
Kanu’s IPOB urged the world to give more support to sign the petition. The petition “FREE MAZI NNAMDI KANU” can be assessed through the online platform
